Domesday Book- Manor of Cleckheaton held by ILBERT DE LACY at part of the Honour of Pontefract

The Font dates around early Norman times and has a Sheila Na-Gig Celtic Fertility carving on one side
1134 Because of very large parishes, need for Chapels-of Ease in districts remote from the parish church. These possessed fonts, so that 'Non might die with-out baptism'

In an old "terrier" the White Chapel is described as Heaton Chapel So that evidently it was the church for the whole district for the Chapelry of Cleckheaton.
1706 Dr Richard Richardson of Bierley Hall, Lord of the Manor was instrumental in the restoration
1820 Church in ruinous state - rebuilt plus increased in size to accommodate 500 seats for 250, galleries on the West & North Walls, 3 decker Pulpit on South Side
1837 The township of Cleckheaton was formed into two separate parochial districts The district Chapelry of White Chapel and the District Chapelry of St. Johns.
1837 The White Chapel was granted a License to carry out Marriages

1923 Porch added as a Memorial to the fallen on the Great War
1980 The White Chapel Spire was removed to prevent further damage to the Chapel
